Gruesome Classic II was held in honor of Andy Karkos, Ed Lundgren, Ed Patch, John Patterson, and Syl Wagasky on Sunday, April 18, with 44 Gruesome members and guests. The day was rather dreary, mostly cloudy, and quite breezy. Consequently scoring was not up to Gruesome standards neither team-wise nor individually. Nevertheless, a good time was had by all ....I think. Special guests included Bill Sporre (Crofton), Alex Lively (Leisure World), Ross Lively (Bad Aibling, Germany), Steve Sklenar (Charlotte, NC), Greg Thomas, (Virginia Beach, VA), Ferrel Camp (Myrtle Beach, SC), Matt Busey (Miami, FL), Kenny Kim (Fort Meade), Bob Hoover (Fort Meade), Bill Studebaker (former Gruesome member and past honoree), and Fred Heuvel (Fort Meade).

- Time permitting, I will run a new sheet following play on Saturday, April 17th. If not we will pick and play off the sheet I run following play on Thursday, April 15th. I will append names of guests of the Gruesome with "guesstimates" of their potential scores.

- Entry fees are $15 for Gruesome and former Gruesome members; $10 for Gruesome guests; and $5 for honorees and non-playing Gruesome members.

- Winter rules in your own fairway.

- We may or may not play #18 Parks. I will make an on-course decision.

- As usual, I will go off first regardless of what team I'm picked on.

- Please keep two (2) cards for each team. Captains please turn in your official cards to me at end of play.

Prizes for closest to the pins on the par three holes ($20 each):

- Team Captains: #10 Parks

- 1st Picks: #8 Parks

- 3rd Picks: #6 Parks

- 4th Picks: #17 Parks

Last team -- please collect the par three markers and turn in to me.

We will also play an A-D (Captains and 4th Picks) and B-C (1st and 3rd Picks) aggregate (combined) best ball gross. In the interest of maintaining pace of play, I am limiting gross scores to double bogey on any hole. Don't hassle me on this -- I know it's not correct to do it this way. Ties will be broken by aggregate best ball gross by hole starting at the #1 handicap hole. Prizes for both A+D and B+C will be:

- 1st: $60

- 2nd: $45

- 3rd: $30

- Last: $20

- In case of tie for last low gross, the tie will be broken by the worst aggregate best ball gross starting at the #1 handicap hole.

For benefit of guests of the Gruesome, we are playing regular Gruesome format for best ball, points, and good birdies and eagles:

- Team best ball and points front nine, back nine, and total (18).

- Best ball is determined by the lowest score of any member(s) of a team on each hole.

- Points are recorded eight (8) for an eagle, four (4) for a birdie, two (2) for a par, one (1) for a bogey, and minus two (2) for a double bogey per hole.

- Three of four balls are counted per hole. For example, if a team records a birdie, two pars, and a bogey on a particular hole, the points for that hole are 8 (4+2+2) and the bogey doesn't count. If a team records a par, a bogey, and two double bogeys on a hole, the team records one (1) point for that hole (2+1-2).

- Putt everything out -- the ball must go in the hole for score to count. A maximum double bogey is scored for each hole; therefore, if a golfer is putting for double bogey it is meaningless and the golfer may pick up his ball.

- Let's have fun!
