Kirt Vener

Kirt Vener began
playing clarinet in elementary school. He took private lessons for four
years from his uncle, Frank Dabaldo, and studied with Herbert Couf for one
year. He attended Royal Oak Dondero High School under the tutelage of Dr.
Joseph Parker. As and undergraduate at Wayne State University in Detroit
he performed with the concert and marching bands. He served as drum major
of the marching band for five years.
After completing
his Ph.D. in Biology from Wayne State, he picked up his clarinet again and
played with the Royal Oak Concert Band and several clarinet choirs in the
Detroit area. After teaching biology at Loyola University of Chicago for
three years, he returned to Wayne State as a Research Administrator . He
moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1979 to work at the National
Institute of Health (NIH). He is currently Branch Chief of the Special
Review and Logistics Branch, Division of Extramural Activities, National
Cancer Institute, NIH. He has a number of peer reviewed publications and
has edited several books.
He has performed
with the Montgomery Village Band and the Westwood Winds Clarinet Choir.
Currently he performs with the Rockville Concert Band (bass clarinet),
the Montgomery College Wind Ensemble (principal clarinetist for three
years; now bass clarinet), The Dixieland Express (of Maryland), and the
Rockville Dixie Rascals.
