John L. McVey
[Home]
John is a
free-lance trombonist in the metro Maryland/DC area. He was born and reared in
Mississippi and attended Mississippi State University. In
January 1993, he retired from the Navy after 22 years as a Cryptologic
Technician. In addition to the Rascals, he regularly
performs with the Bayside Big Band, Crabtowne Big Band,
and the Bones of
Faith. He has also
performed with the Rockville Concert Band, Columbia Concert Band, the Columbia Jazz
Ensemble, and
the Village Jazz Band in Gaithersburg, MD. John's other credits include
several recording sessions for such theatrical musicals as Lil' Abner, Big
River, Me and My Gal, and Annie at the Chesapeake
Music Hall in Annapolis, Md. John plays a 1965 King 2B and a Bach
50B2O bass trombone for most jazz and small combo work and a Bach
42K in the concert band.
To actually make a living and
pay for his music "habit", John works as an Information Systems
Analyst at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington. He provides desktop
computer support, network administration, Lotus
Notes Support, SQL Server support, and web administration. John also does
web development as a hobby at home and maintains several websites for the
